Duskfall, an epic fantasy

Duskfall, by Christopher B. HusbergThere’s nothing I like more to read or narrate than a true, world-spanning epic fantasy!  Duskfall, book 1 of the Chaos Queen series, was an honor to voice for first-time author Christopher Husberg and Recorded Books.

Husberg weaves together disparate story lines in the beginning of the novel, leading the major characters to an encounter, and eventually, to a crisis point.  He does a great job leaving just enough unanswered questions and cliff-hangers to leave you salivating for the next volume.  The world-building is intricate and detailed, and the characters show depth and dimensions.  Not just a “typical” fantasy novel, I highly recommend this for fans of the genre and beyond!

One of my favorite aspects of narrating science fiction and fantasy is the opportunity to voice extreme characters, be they dragons, demons, or sentient slime molds.  Without revealing too much, Duskfall features a terrifying presence that is described thus: “The voice that spoke was deep, like a rush of fire wreathed in darkness.”  Now that was fun to interpret!

Stuck with arrows and close to death, a man is pulled from the icy waters of the Gulf of Nahl. Winter, a seemingly quiet young fisherman’s daughter, harbors a secret addiction that threatens to destroy her. A young priestess, Cinzia, must face a long journey home to protect her church from rebellion. A rebellion sparked by her sister. Three characters on different paths will be brought together by fate on one thrilling and perilous adventure.  -©2016 Christopher B. Husberg (P)2016 Recorded Books
