Below are a few pages with examples of my favorite works in each genre:
The class of literature comprising works of imaginative narration, especially in prose form. works of this class, as novels or short stories: detective fiction. something feigned, invented, or imagined; a made-up story:
Prose writing that is based on facts, real events, and real people, such as biography or history.
Urban Christian fiction is a genre in which conflicting stories of emotion and vividness mixes God, the urban church, and faith. Violence and sex is not purposely excluded, but are included whenever necessary for the story line.
Letters, theological treatises and other instructive and devotional works have been produced by Christian authors since the times of Jesus. For early Christian times almost all writing would be non-fiction, including letters, biblical commentaries, doctrinal works and hagiography.
Young Adult (YA)
Authors and readers of young adult (YA) novels often define the category as literature traditionally written for ages ranging from sixteen years to the age of twenty-five, while Teen Fiction is written for the ages of ten to fifteen.
Children’s literature or juvenile literature includes stories, books, magazines, and poems that are enjoyed by children. Modernchildren’s literature is classified in two different ways: genre or the intended age of the reader.
Novels of this type of genre fiction place their primary focus on the relationship and romantic love between two people, and must have an “emotionally satisfying and optimistic ending.” There are many subgenres of the romance novel including fantasy, historical, science fiction and paranormal.
Science fiction is a genre of fiction dealing with imaginative content such as futuristic settings and futuristic science and technology. Fantasy is dragons (okay, and lots of other things).
Biography & Memoir
Memoir (from French: mémoire: memoria, meaning memory or reminiscence), is a literary nonfiction genre. More specifically, it is a collection of memories that an individual writes about moments or events, both public or private that took place in the subject’s life.
